Zachary Scott Riley, age 63, was born on May 1, 1962 in Danbury, CT to the late Roosevelt Riley, Sr. and Lillian (White) Riley.
Zachary, “a jack of all trades,” had many talents and was always ready to lend a helping hand; whether fixing something around the house, offering guidance, or bringing a laugh to the card table during a game of ace-high spades.
Zachary’s presence was both grounding and uplifting. He was our own Hercules — strong, fearless, and always standing as a protector for those he loved. Family was everything to Zachary and his love knew no bounds. He was especially proud of his children ZaTasha, Cynthia, and Zachary Jr., each of whom carry forward his spirit, compassion, and strength.
Zachary’s kindness extended beyond his family. He was deeply connected to his community and always willing to help anyone in need. He held a special place in his heart for Ms. Lucille Taylor, for whom he gladly did odd jobs and offered his support whenever she needed a hand. An avid outdoors’s man, Zachary felt most at peace surrounded by nature and gathered with loved ones. Whether sharing stories on the porch or volunteering in the community that he so deeply cared for, he gave his time, heart, and hard work selflessly. He never met a stranger, and his kindness extended to everyone he met. His actions spoke louder than words ever could. He was an animal lover and was very protective of his Siamese cat.
Zachary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, loyalty, and service. Though he has passed from this world, his memory will continue to guide and inspire all who had the honor of knowing him. Zachary is not only survived by his mother, Lillian (White) Riley, but his daughters ZaTasha S. Shiffer of Naugatuck, CT, and Cynthia Zackysha Riley of Boston, MA and his son Zachary S. Riley Jr. of Boston MA; his siblings: Sheral (James) Tillery of Monroe, CT; Roosevelt (LaTonya) Riley, Jr. of Frisco, TX; Deanne Hinkle of Reno, NV; Anthony Riley of Danbury, CT; Tina (Phillip) Wilson of Bluffton, SC; Kevin C. Riley of Hardeeville, SC; Eric T. (Claudia) Riley of Naugatuck, CT; and Rodney Riley of Fort Worth, TX; also four aunts Ms. Katie Mae Holmes of Danbury, CT; Ms. Beverly Johnson of Savannah, GA; Ms. Carrie Bell Knighton of Hardeeville, SC; and Ms. Elaine Johnson of Savannah, GA; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by Rosetta Hughes and his father Roosevelt Riley, Sr.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Victory Church from 10:00 am -11:00 am with a going home service which will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery on Ellsworth Ave in Danbury, CT.
