William “Bill” Colin, age 92 of Southbury, CT died on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, Connecticut.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Georgeann Colin and their three sons Peter (Theresa), Paul (Jill), Thomas (Donna) and five grandchildren Peter Jr., Leighann, Michael, Matthew, and Christina.
Bill was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 25, 1928 to his parents Harry and Rosalie. Along with his two younger brothers, James and Richard, he grew up loving the Brooklyn Dodgers, summer activities at Brighton Beach and active participation in the Boy Scouts.
Bill attended Stuyvesant High School and graduated in 1946. He attended City College of New York where he received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. After graduation, Bill became a Certified Public Accountant and joined the accounting firm S. D. Leidesdorf, serving clients across the United States. With wife Georgeann and their young sons, the family enjoyed many adventures as Bill’s assignments took them far and wide across the country.
Bill later joined the accounting firm Touche Ross, focusing on health care companies. In 1966, Bill joined Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn as Financial Controller and later Chief Financial Officer, playing an important role in the expansion of the hospital’s facility and outreach services. Bill was active in church activities at Grace Lutheran Church in Malverne NY, where he served as treasurer. During this time, Bill received his master’s degree from Long Island University.
In retirement, Bill was active in the Heritage Village community in Southbury for twenty years and volunteered as an AARP Tax Aide preparer and as an instructor with Literacy Volunteers of America.
