William A. (Billy) Piela passed away on April 21, 2025. Billy was born on June 25, 1960, the son of the late John & Carmela (Petronella) Piela. Left to cherish his memory are his six siblings John (Margaret) Piela, Karen Damato, Ken (Lenka) Piela, Michele Piela, Dennis (Becky) Piela and Kathleen Piela, as well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins. He will always be remembered by his lifelong friend, Dean Esposito. Billy is also survived by his partner, Dina Sontag. Billy was predeceased by his niece, Kimberly Sabene and his nephew, Jason Piela.
During Billy’s baseball career, he played varsity baseball for Danbury High School, Mattituck Community College and St. Leo’s College. He played professional baseball in the Netherlands and Austria. Billy was an assistant varsity baseball coach at Hofstra University. He was an instructor at Bucky Dent’s baseball camp in Florida and worked with many Major League Baseball players. He was also the bench and hitting coach for Elmira Pioneers minor league club and was varsity head baseball coach at Trevor Day School in New York City.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 7 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Anthony’s Lake Club, 10 Christopher Columbus Avenue, Danbury, CT. Please contact one of Billy's siblings to confirm your attendance.
