William Hauschild Obituary

William “Billy” Hauschild, beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 76, surrounded by the love of his two daughters, Jennifer and Christine.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Christine; his cherished granddaughters, Kariann and Bella, who were the light of his life; cousins Elaine, Laura, Carol, In New York as well as Dottie, and Marge in Texas, along with many other cousins and friends who will miss him deeply.

Billy was predeceased by his son, Christopher, and his beloved partner, Valerie. The family finds comfort in knowing that Billy is now reunited with them.

Billy was born on January 25, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY to parents Dorothy Donnelly and William M. Hauschild. He grew up alongside his brother, Ed, and was raised by a close-knit family that included his Aunt Margie, Uncle Mike, and his grandmother, Mrs. Lake.

In his younger years, Billy spent a decade working on oil rigs, taking on tough, high-risk work that few would willingly choose. It was there that his adventurous spirit truly came to life. When he wasn’t working, he could be found fishing—pulling in remarkable catches and collecting stories he would go on to tell for years. That time shaped his love for the water, his resilience, and his ability to find joy even in the most rugged conditions.

For over 30 years Billy dedicated himself to the elevator industry, working as an elevator mechanic for Local #1, Dover Elevator, and Thyssen Krupp. He was eventually appointed as a Senior Code Enforcement Officer for the City of White Plains, retiring in 2018 at the age of 68. Billy approached his work with quiet pride and dedication, forming lasting connections with colleagues and friends throughout his career. His daughter Jennifer recalls how proud she felt when he would take her to work, watching him ride on top of elevators, learning alongside him, and meeting the coworkers who became like extended family, some of whom she remains close with to this day. He kept his elevator badge in his wallet until the very end and loved sharing stories from his many years on the job.

Those who knew Billy best will remember his deep love for his family, especially his granddaughters, Kariann and Bella, who were his pride and joy. He never missed an opportunity to share photos, videos, and stories about them, beaming with pride at every milestone and moment.

Billy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved cars—especially showing off his prized 1964 Corvette—cheering on the New York Yankees, fishing and boating, and spending days at the beach. He also had a well-known love for honey mustard, often joking, “I should have stock in honey mustard”—a line that family and friends will always remember with a smile. Whether on the water, behind the wheel, or riding on top of elevators, Billy was happiest when he could share what he loved with the people who mattered most.

In keeping with Billy’s wishes, no formal ceremony will be held. The family will gather privately in the coming weeks to celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

“In the town where I was born

Lived a man who sailed to sea

And he told us of his life

In the land of submarines

So we sailed on to the sun

'Til we found a sea of green

And we lived beneath the waves

In our yellow submarine”
