Wilhelm Heinrich Konrad Renken – ‘Konrad’, 93 passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Danbury Hospital.
Konrad was born to Anna Hoyermann and Heinrich Christoph Friedrich Renken in Bremen, Germany on August 15, 1927. He was a Chef, completing his apprenticeship in the Ratskeller in Bremen. He lived in Bremen until 1949 when he immigrated to the United States. He served in two wars, WWII and in the US Army during the Korean War.
Once in the United States, he lived and worked in New York City, where he met a young Swiss governess, Silvia Schweizer. The two were soon married in Westfield, NJ in 1960. They settled in White Plains, NY and were married for 47 years. He worked as the Executive Chef for the Country Club of Darien, Darien, CT for over 35 years.
Konrad is preceded by his bride, Silvia, his parents and brother, Karl Friedrich of Leer, Germany. He is survived by his sister, Christiane Papke of Syke, Germany, half-sister, Carola Eßrich of Bielefeld, Germany, and cousin, Carol Hoyermann of Indianapolis, IN. He has two children, Paul Renken and his wife, Barbara of Yorktown Heights, NY and their twins, Henry (14) and Annabelle (14); and Christian Renken and his wife, Sandra of New Fairfield, CT. and their sons, Kaspar (18) and Thomas (14).
Konrad was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a true gentleman. His quick wit and abundance of stories will be missed. He enjoyed reading, gardening and his family.
At this time a service will not be held. He will be interred next to Silvia at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
