Walker Thomas “Tee” Coles, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, earned his heavenly wings on Monday December 13, 2021 at Penrose Hospital of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Walker was born in Hurt, Virginia on Oct 3,1932 to the late Reverend Martin and Elizabeth (Lane) Coles. He attended the Pittsylvania County school system.
After Migrating to Danbury in the early 1950’s he worked in the famous Danbury hatting industry for many years. After the demise of the hat industry, he worked with American Cyanamid working his way up to supervisor. Walker retired as Sexton for the Newtown Congregational Church.
In his spare time, he loved working with his hands whether it be building beautiful wood furniture or restoring and tinkering with his “baby” a 1963 Cadillac convertible. There weren’t many things he couldn’t fix.
Walker was kind and caring and loved his family. He always made time for family and friends when they needed him. His personality was truly one of a kind. He never ran out of jokes. If you knew him and he considered you a friend or family you would be assigned an affectionate nickname. His charming and fun personality was what you noticed first but, if you listened, you could discern he was a truly wise man.
Walker leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Sandra L. (Edric) Bates of East Providence, RI, Carissa L. (Craig) Mayo and Walker “Tommy” (Annie), Coles Jr. of Danbury, CT and Michael Smith of Colorado Springs, CO., six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other family. Walker was predeceased by a son, Wayne M. Coles, brothers Lawrence Coles, Charles Coles, Russell Coles, Wallace Coles Eugene Coles, sisters Miriam Coles and Isabell Coles Crews.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a celebration of his life at the Danbury Memorial Funeral Home 117 South Street, Danbury, CT on Tuesday December 28, 2021 beginning at 11a.m. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon. The final resting place will be Wooster Cemetery.
