Thomas Edward Couture

With hurting hearts, we share the passing of Thomas Edward Couture, 81, of Danbury, Connecticut on August 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, at home surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 12, 1943, Tom was the beloved son of the late Fernand and Yvonne (Toussaint) Couture. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Carol (Keeler); his daughters Corrine Cobbol (Tim) of Brookfield and Cathy Couture (RJ) of New Milford and his cherished grandchildren Kevin, Carly, Haley, and Erik.

He leaves behind his sisters Francis Mitchell of Danbury and Irene Gillotti of Torrington. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Couture, and his sister Arlene Grouse. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and we again would like to express our gratitude to those who enriched his life. The stories are endless….

He graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School and proudly served in the National Guard. Tom built a 37-year career at Northeast Utilities, retiring in 2008.

Tom was an honorable family man of quiet strength, steady devotion, and gentle humor. Taking his young family camping every summer created memories to last a lifetime. He was most at peace on the water in his kayak or out camping under the stars. He rarely had a home without a dog, as it wasn’t home without his beloved pets. Following the UCONN Womens basketball team was a thrill to him, especially attending the 2002 National Championship win in San Antonio. And above all, he found joy in his role as “Pop,” creating lasting memories with his grandchildren and always showing up with love and patience. 

His legacy of kindness, calm presence, and deep love for family lives on in all who knew him. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Braulia Guzman and Cathy Wyskiel for their loving care. We are forever grateful.

There will be no formal service as he wished.  In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Tom’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or your local animal rescue.
