Sydney Alworth Obituary

Sydney Alice Alworth, 24, of Roxbury, CT, passed away on March 31st, 2020, after a long, courageous battle with addiction.  Sydney was the beloved daughter of Kevin and Lucia Alworth, also of Roxbury, and sister of Emily Alworth, of Salt Lake City, UT.  She attended Region 12-Shepaug schools before graduating from Canterbury School in New Milford.

As a gifted artist across several mediums, including painting and illustration, Sydney was accepted into UConn’s School of Fine Arts before heading off to China to study Mandarin and immerse herself in the local culture.  She was an accomplished musician and Suzuki-trained pianist who also studied guitar, taught herself drums, and often enjoyed “jamming” with her friends and family.  Some of Sydney’s fondest memories were of her many summers spent at Buck’s Rock Performing & Creative Arts Camp in New Milford.

Sydney had a big heart. She loved animals, especially cats, and she was particularly fond of Malarkey, her rescue stray from Florida.  She was also passionate about social and environmental justice issues, and could be counted on to lend her voice at a rally.  She was an ally and advocate for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters and those on the margins of society.  And she was a faithful friend to many in time of need. Sydney was a truly beautiful person, inside and out. She was kind and caring, sweet and sensitive, with a generous spirit and a quirky, witty sense of humor.

She will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones, but we will hold tight to cherished memories until we are reunited in God’s eternal love.

In addition to her parents and sister, Sydney is survived by: her grandparents in Danbury, Armando and Dorothy Buono; her auntie, uncle and cousins in Roxbury – Linda, Michael, Clayton, Jack and Luke Schneider; her uncle Christopher Buono in Bristol; her uncle, aunt and cousins in PA – Michael, Kimberly, AJ and Nick Buono; her aunts and uncles in NJ – Deirdre and Wayne Maigis, and Alisia Alworth – and cousins Meghan, Blaide, Cristin, Connor, Gizelle and Shelby,.....and many, many friends.

A service and celebration of Sydney’s life is planned for a later date still to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SVS Activities Fund/Art Club at Shepaug High School, 159 South Street, Washington, CT, 06793 or a charity of your own choosing.
