Susan P. Knight passed away peacefully at Havencare – Hancock Hall on August 19th, 2025. She was 67 years old.
She was born on September 28th, 1957 in Mill Valley, California. Growing up in Mill Valley, Susan developed a passion for horses and became an enthusiastic equestrian rider participating in competitive horse shows with her sister.
In the early seventies, Susan and her family moved to Connecticut, where she attended and graduated from Ridgefield High School. She went on to study Pre-Vet/Animal Science at University of Connecticut, College of Agriculture. She was on the UConn Drill Team, competing with her horse Connemara, and an honorary member of Alpha Zeta sorority. After graduating from UConn Susan moved to Brookfield, CT. Her love of the equestrian world carried over into her work as a buyer for The Saddler in Wilton, CT. During that time, she participated in shows in NY state and CT with her beloved horse Good Vibrations.
Susan’s parents moved to Wilmington North Carolina where she often visited. Trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to visit friends were also favorite destinations. Because of her love of the sea, Susan continued her studies in Marine Biology where she received a Master of Science in Oceanography at Western Connecticut University. She later was employed by Boehringer Ingelheim in Danbury, CT first in Purchasing, then later transferred to Development Research. Susan’s interest in science lead her to participate in a workgroup to study of the effects of phosphorus entering non-tidal water bodies around Lake Candlewood. Her love for animals, especially cats, brought out her compassionate side to volunteer at the local animal shelter. Not only did Susan have a scientific mind, there was a creative side to her as well. She enjoyed painting and sketching, writing and illustrating a series of children’s stories about her fascination with the sea and mermaids. She played guitar, loved gardening, and felt a genuine connection to Native American culture. Susan was caring and dedicated, with a passion for the environment and wildlife. She will be sorely missed by her friends.
She is predeceased by her parents William and Hanny (Wind) Knight and sister Elaine Knight Wallach.
