Ronald Harrison Obituary

Ronald Henry Harrison passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Danbury Hospital on January 11, 2025. He was born on April 7, 1953, in Flushing, NY, to Henry Hueling Harrison and Ruth Wiedemann Harrison. He moved to Danbury as a young child, graduating from Danbury High School. He owned and operated Harrison Construction following his father’s death.

He leaves behind his wife, Genevieve (Gilbert) Harrison, of Sherman; his sister, Valerie McGee (Edward), of Brookfield; his daughters, Heather Davis (Izaak), of New Milford, and Kim Laughlin (Tim), of Sherman; his five grandsons, Gavin Alden, Wesley, Ashton, and Eli Davis, and Leo Laughlin; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will especially be missed by his nephew, Jim, and cousin, Austin, whom he thought of as sons, in addition to his four best friends, Bill Ginty, Tom Driscoll, Ron Pollaro, and Bob Greco.

A forty-six-year resident of Sherman, Connecticut, he enjoyed his retirement happily mowing area properties maintained as open spaces and parks. He was an agricultural enthusiast tending to his garden and growing varieties of pumpkins alongside his grandsons. He was a master mechanic, finding joy in the restoration of tractors and farming equipment. An avid sportsman, he loved to hunt, fish, and captain his many boats. Throughout their affectionate marriage, he embraced adventure with his loving wife, traveling the world and sailing over twelve hundred nautical miles in the Caribbean and spending years enjoying Long Island Sound and Candlewood Lake. You could find him enjoying each day in the early morning at the Sherman IGA with his daily coffee club or at any event where his grandsons were involved.

He could easily repair anything with a combustion engine, was a talented blacksmith, and became an accomplished horseman, rescuing his beloved draft horse of twenty-eight years, Phoe. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, happiest entertaining when surrounded by family and friends, cooking on the grill. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly as a kind, generous, cheerful person who made everyone feel as if he was their closest friend, even if they had just met him.

Donations can be made in his memory to two of his favorite organizations: the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department and the Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy.

A wake will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, located at 117 South Street in Danbury, CT.
