Richard W. (Dick) Gaylor, 83, of Brookfield, CT, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, in his home with his family by his side. He was born in Stamford, CT to the late Newton and Myrtle (Lillie) Gaylor. Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Dick graduated from Stamford High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Fairfield University. After graduating high school he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Dick’s career spanned various engineering companies in the Danbury, CT area, and he retired from Schlumberger-Doll Research Center in Ridgefield, CT in 2007.
Dick had many hobbies and interests with Ham radio being his first love, kindled when he was radioman in the Navy. A close second and third was flying (he was a private pilot) and sailing (he spent many hours sailing on Candlewood Lake in Brookfield, and bare boating in the Bahamas, Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands with dear family and friends). Not to be forgotten was his love of the piano. This time of year he would be filling the house with sounds of Christmas carols, much to the enjoyment of his family.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Carol Ann Larocque Gaylor, his son Rick and daughter Jennifer (Joseph), and his dear grandchildren Lexi and Joey. He leaves a sister Debby Brown (Jim) of Hampton, NH, brothers David Gaylor (Gloria) of Collinsville, VA and Gary Gaylor of Lakeland, CO, brother and sister-in law Gerry and Karen Larocque of Matlacha, FL, and sister-in-law Paula Tetrault of Dartmouth, MA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward A. Gaylor and Curtis C. Gaylor and daughter-in-law Christine DiCarlo.
One of the many things his family will miss are the happy hours spent around the dining room table drinking coffee and discussing anything and everything, laughing and joking until sides ached and tears ran down cheeks. Dick’s quick and clever sense of humor was always loved and enjoyed.
No services are planned at this time. Internment with family will be sometime in the summer of 2024 at Fairfield Memorial in Stamford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810. His family is grateful to the caring, compassionate and dedicated team of caregivers at Regional.
