Ravie Stevenson

Ravie Anderson Stevenson fondly known as Jackie transitioned from labor to reward on January 14, 2023 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 22, 1939 to Rev. Johnnie and Mary McNair in Edgecombe County, NC. She attended Edgecombe County public schools. Her early adult years were spent in Norfolk, VA with her sisters Evangelist Ida B Carney and Missionary Carrie Lee Jones.

Ravie relocated to Danbury in 1964 to join her brother Deacon J.P McNair and his family. This is where she met her husband Charlie Stevenson Sr.

She spent her life as a homemaker caring for her family and others. Her doors were always open to welcome all. Ravie loved entertaining at her home. You could always find many people gathered around her dining table or picnicking in her yard. Everyone knew if you went to Ms. Jackie’s house you would be treated as family.  She loved to decorate her home inside and out consistently according to the season that it was.

She was predeceased by her husband Charlie Stevenson Sr., her sisters Annie Mae Toppins, Mae Bell and Evangelist Ida B. Carney, her brothers Leroy McNair, Deacon J.P McNair, Winfield McNair, Rev. Henry McNair, Supt. Emeritus Wilbert McNair, her stepson Charlie Jr. and her grandchildren Tebrra, Josh, Raven Mourning and Malik.

She leaves to cherish her memory 7 children Debra Mourning (Luther), Laverne Anderson, Vivian Anderson (Stuart), Patricia Anderson, Annette Anderson, Charlene Anderson (Dwight), and Rodney Stevenson as well as 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A Celebration of life gathering will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at The Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church (Rowen Street, Danbury) from 10-11 am with a service beginning at 11am.
