Ralph G. Loveland Obituary
Ralph G. Loveland, 73, of Bethel, passed away at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born in New Haven on July 26, 1952, son of the late Ralph and Esther (Pohlman) Loveland. He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Keith Loveland, and by his son, Charles Loveland.
Ralph grew up in Sandy Hook in a home built by his father near the brook. Ralph was always proud of his childhood with his brothers. When he shared stories about growing up, it would transport you in time and make you feel what it was like to be a young boy playing in those woods.
At the age of 17, Ralph secured his first and only job as a machine operator for Hubbell Incorporated in Newtown. After graduating from Newtown High School, he continued in his role at Hubbell for over 40 years until his retirement.
In his free time, Ralph loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. Those close to him will never forget him saying, "Just joking!" Ralph loved music and he loved to dance. Whether it be country line dancing or dancing on roller skates, if music was playing, Ralph's feet were moving. When he wasn't joking around or dancing, Ralph was sure to be walking through town wearing his famous hat or looking for the next best place to dig for antique bottles. Ralph could identify the era of a glass bottle simply by looking at its rim and imperfections. He loved to watch Antique Roadshow and old western movies, during which he was sure to be sitting on the floor with his legs crossed.
Friends and family will always remember Ralph for his kind heart and gentle soul. He was an amazingly loving father and grandfather and was considered the best, fun uncle by many. Ralph was always the one adult the children in his family could count on to run around with them, play baseball, or go to the playground.
He will be sadly missed by his son, James Loveland and wife, Allison; daughter, Holly Loveland and partner, Steve Owens; twin brother, Russell G. Loveland; and grandchildren Katrina, Collin, Zachary, and Liam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Forever missed but never forgotten, a true family man and friend!
