Ralph Domenic Cocchia, age 81, died peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021 at home in Southbury, CT surrounded by his loving and devoted wife of over 30 years, Sharon (Ryan) Cocchia, and stepson Jesse Hanson.
Ralph was born on August 12, 1939 in South Norwalk, CT to the late Domenic R. and Mary (Palmer) Cocchia. He is survived by his wife Sharon Cocchia, stepson Jesse Hanson, stepdaughter Lenora Hanson and her children Kaitlin, David and Ryan, brothers Frank Cocchia, Peter Cocchia, and Domenic Cocchia and sister Mary Ann Szatkowski as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A longtime resident of South Norwalk, Ralph graduated from Norwalk High School in 1958. He immediately started work at the US Post Office in South Norwalk where he was a loyal and valued employee for 43 years until his retirement.
Ralph loved all animals from domestic pets to exotic zoo animals. He enjoyed visiting zoos as well as reading maps and brochures from distant zoos. He cherished his collection of figures and pictures of his favorite animals. Ralph was also a lifelong sports fan and an avid Yankees fan. He especially enjoyed listening to sports talk radio. Ralph's encyclopedic knowledge of sports and Yankee facts was truly amazing.
