Peter Dobson, 74, of Bethel, Connecticut, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed
away peacefully on July 22nd surrounded by his family.
Peter was born in Stamford, CT on March 26, 1951 to the late Bernice Landon (Harkin) and
John Dobson. He graduated from Immaculate High School, Class of 1970. He earned his
Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his Master’s in
Community Psychology from University of New Haven. On Aug. 7,1976 he married the love
of his life, Maurica (Frinder) Dobson, and in 1983 they moved to Bethel, where they created
a nurturing and loving home for years to come. He had a long career working as the
Supervisor at Juvenile Detention Center, from which he retired in 2003. In his
post-retirement he enjoyed a part time position for a decade at Grainger.
Peter was known for his passionate and enduring commitment to his family and community.
A girl-dad through and through, his daughters were his pride and joy. Peter never missed an
opportunity to cheer them on at dance recitals, running races, or softball games. In fact, he
enjoyed many years of coaching his daughters, and served as President of Bethel Softball
Association. A lifetime competitor, Peter spent his youth playing baseball, and as an adult
enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, running, and golf. He instilled his love of running in his
daughters, and he was a proud finisher of the NYC Marathon. Peter was a die-hard Mets
and UConn fan, and frequently attended games with his wife and friends. In retirement he
enjoyed spending winters in Florida, exploring new places with his wife, tending to his
gardens and home, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Peter leaves behind a legacy of love. In addition to his loving wife, Maurica, of 49 years, he
is survived by his daughters, Erin (Ethan) Harris of Manchester, VT, and Shawna (Daniel)
Ryan of San Luis Obispo, CA. He was “Pop Pops” to his grandchildren, Siena Harris, Rylie
Harris, Dean Ryan, and Wade Ryan. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Dobson)
DeBenigno of Danbury, and his cousin Rick Follis of Clinton, as well as a large extended
family, including in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Peter gave in death as he did in life, and was an organ and tissue donor. Donations in
Peter’s memory can be made to the Bethel Softball Association, an organization in which he
took pride and joy, or Regional Hospice, which played an integral role in supporting and
caring for Peter and his family at the end of his life.

His family would also like to thank the staff at Maplewood, Stony Hill, and countless
friends and family for their unwavering love and care during the journey of his illness. Peter
will be remembered by many for his unconditional kindness and empathy, his ability to make
others laugh, and his wonderful warmth and affection. A memorial service will be held at a
later date to celebrate Peter’s beautiful life.
