Niurka Luisa Garcia passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2021 after a brief illness at Saint John Paul II Center in Danbury, CT. Niurka was born on June 21, 1939 in Camaguey, Cuba to the late Francisco Acevedo and Maria Acevedo. She immigrated to the United States in 1971 with her six young children to give them a better life. Despite being petite, she truly was a strong, hard-working woman.
Along with being a die-hard Yankees fan, she found joy being near the ocean and had a love for turtles and lighthouses. She devoted her life to her children and extended family. Niurka always provided support and love for her family. She was an extremely proud grandma, always full of pride by the accomplishments of her grandchildren.
Niurka is survived by seven beloved children: son George Garcia, daughter Janet Zapata, son Jorge Garcia, daughter Jacqueline Garcia, daughter Yamila Garcia, daughter Jamie Serva, and son Victor Garcia. Eleven grandchildren: Jessica Rodgers, Daniel Serva, Erik Garcia, Alex Zapata, Ariana Zapata, Michael Serva, Ricky Redrovan, Ilyssa Garcia, Andy Garcia, Anthony Garcia, and Adriana Garcia. One great-grandson: Derek Rodgers; and many beloved nieces and nephews along with her beloved dog, Sandy.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday January 23rd, 2021 at 10am at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, CT.
