Neil Pivarnik Obituary

Neil Charles Pivarnik left this earth on July 1, 2026. He was born March 29,1944 in Yonkers, New York, the son of Helen (Dran) Pivarnik and Charles Edward Pivarnik. He was the brother of Judy Pivarnik Hohmann (William) and the uncle of Andrew Hohmann and Benjamin Hohmann.

Neil graduated from Yonkers High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University and his doctorate from Columbia University. For most of his career he was a psychologist at Manhattan State Hospital caring for some of the most severely mentally ill patients. In his retirement he lived in Norwalk and Ridgefield, Connecticut. He had a keen intellect with interests ranging from history to theology.

His love and knowledge of classical music were impressive to all who knew him. He enjoyed the New York Philharmonic, the Ridgefield Symphony and many summer weekends at Tanglewood as well as sailing his boat on Copake Lake.

He spent over 25 years fighting Parkinson’s Disease with heroic determination.
