Nancy Klein Obituary

Nancy Ackerman Klein died peacefully on April 23, 2024, in her family home overlooking Candlewood Lake.

Nancy  Ackerman Klein  was born on July 21st, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Dr. Benjamin and Edna Ackerman.   Dr. and Mrs. Ackerman built their lake retreat when Nancy was 16 years old.  Nancy loved Candlewood Lake and would spend her summers from then on enjoying the lake and entertaining on its shores.

Nancy graduated from NYU in 1952 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and in 1981 with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Nancy was dedicated to improving her community, her state and beyond and was involved extensively in volunteer work for the betterment of mental health and with the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Barry M. Klein.  They moved into Nancy's family lake home in the early 1960s and proceeded to raise their family there.  Nancy is survived by their three children, Laurie Klein of Providence, RI, Russ Klein (Cricket) of Incline Village, NV and Amy Klein (Scott) of Brookfield, CT, and by her five grandchildren, Kyle Klein (Kelsey), Dr. Bryce Klein Perler (Katie), Jeremy Klein Farrell, Hannah Klein Farrell (Carmine), and Sage Lilly Klein.  She loved her family and close friends fiercely.  Those who knew her loved her.

Nancy enjoyed gardening (especially orchids), was a fabulous cook and was always eager to be creative in her kitchen.  She loved entertaining and was the most gracious of hostesses.  An avid reader, she often read multiple books at the same time.

Nancy and Barry had a thriving antiques business, which she loved, and she and Barry traveled throughout the US and the world.  She could often be spotted around town in her 1932 Pontiac Roadster.    Later in life, Nancy loved to dress up, put her lipstick on, and declare that she looked ‘chi chi’. She was a class act.

Nancy’s family is so grateful for the wonderful care that she received from Regional Hospice, Kenya, Judy, Terry and the other wonderful people from Home Care Services. Special thanks to Dr. Joann Soltis and the other wonderful doctors and medical personnel who helped with mom’s presence in our lives for this chapter in her life. Thanks also to Carol who was, for a number of years, friend and aid of Nancy’s. Trevlyn, Claudelle, Therusha and most especially Pam, thank you for the wonderful care and love that you had for Nancy.  She truly loved you as family.
