Michael Marmaras, a cherished member of the Danbury, CT community, passed away peacefully on August 29th, during his 100th year of life. Born on March 28, 1925, in Danbury, CT, he was the son of George and Rita (Pastri) Marmaras. A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, he touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor and wisdom, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael was one of four children and graduated from Danbury High School. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II and later embarked on a successful career as an entrepreneur, small business owner, and master machinist for Mosler Research, concluding his career at Ethan Allen.
Michael's life was enriched by his deep love for his wife, Diamond, whom he met on the dance floor at a church dance at St. Barbara’s Church Hall in New Haven. Their 70-year union was a testament to their enduring love and devotion.
A proud Greek-American, Michael celebrated both his Greek heritage and American pop culture. His love for music, nurtured in a household where various instruments were played, was a cornerstone of his life. He and Diamond enjoyed many memorable evenings dancing the “lindy” and the “jitterbug.”
Michael had a passion for landscaping and could often be found tending to his garden, creating a beautiful backyard oasis admired by many. The most important thing to Michael was his family. He
enjoyed many special holidays, vacations and casual visits with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren where his storytelling, witty jokes, and incredible memories of the past enthralled
listeners of all ages and generations.
