Mary Grace Cordero passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2025. She was 19 years old.
Mary was born on October 29, 2005 in Huntington, NY, and was the daughter of Joseph Cordero and Noemi Victoria Ortega. She graduated from Brentwood High School in 2023. Mary was fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, she was a student at Western Connecticut State University. Mary was a strong student and always put her best foot forward.
Mary enjoyed nature and everything about it, the colors and sounds. She loved her cat, Amina. Mary enjoyed playing the saxophone, she was first chair and took pride in her accomplishments. Playing the saxophone allowed Mary to meet the love of her life Christian Velis, together they have made memories to last a lifetime over the last three years.
Mary was everyone’s friend and put others before herself, she was selfless and only wished the best for everyone. Mary was a person who would want to make amends with you, she would swallow her pride and apologize even if she wasn’t wrong. Mary never had an enemy; she was loved by all.
Mary was strongly influenced by several people in her life. John Faraci who Mary called Papa John, her mother, Noemi, and her sister, Alice. Papa John had a great impact on Mary’s life he treated Mary like his own daughter. He would always take her out fishing on party boats with their whole family where she found a love for the sea. Throughout her childhood for many years, she grew up in Martha and John’s home. They would often spend holidays together as a family. She was a grateful God daughter to papa John; he taught Mary many of her life experiences and the many ways on how to live her life. Mary’s mother showed her the ways of Catholicism that Mary carried out through her life, Mary loved her mother and her sister Alice so much when they were together, they were like an inseparable trio. Mary’s mother always supported Mary through thick and thin Mary was her Angel.
Mary is survived by her beloved parents; Noemi and Joseph, her boyfriend; Christian, her sister; Alice Esther Cordero, many aunts, uncles, her paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother.
