Marjorie Cassidy Obituary

Marjorie Patricia Cassidy,80, of Torrington, CT passed away on Friday, April 28th, 2023, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Marjorie was born on November 12, 1942, in Woodbury, NJ to her loving mother and father, Charlotte and Wilbur Ayres.

After graduating from Deptford High School, she married her high school sweetheart, John Cassidy a few years later, on December 9th, 1960.  Shortly after their marriage, she went on to have three children, Kim, John, and Lori. Marjorie is predeceased by her mother, father, brother, Wilbur Ayres, and her beloved dog, Sydney and is survived by her husband of 62 years, three children, six grandchildren and younger brother, Robert Ayres.

Marjorie was a beautiful person inside and out and cared deeply for the people in her life.  She was a private and quiet person, but also someone who liked to laugh and have fun.  She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Marjorie.  They were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges.

After being married to her husband, John, for the first thirteen years, he was involved in a traumatic motorcycle accident where he lost his leg and spent many months in hospitals.  At the time, Marjorie had to raise her three young children and her 12-year-old brother after she took him in as her own, after both their parents died in their forties from cancer.  Marjorie kept the family going by herself while her husband healed.  She visited him every day with her children while staying strong for the family until his release from the hospital in the early seventies.

Marjorie was a strong fighter in life and in death and we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace surrounded by light.  We will all miss her more than words can say.

At her request, in her final wishes, there will be no memorial service or funeral.
