Marie Jesus Brilhante, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on March 6, 2024. She was a life-long resident of Danbury. The daughter of the late Alfred and Palmira (Bastos) Veiga.
She was the wife of the late Jaime De Medeiros Brilhante; married for 54 years.
Marie’s memory will be carried on by her children; Jaime Brilhante, Susan (Gary) Hancock, Helen Early, Richard (Erica) Brilhante. Her grandchildren; Dean Hancock, Dylan (Lidiane) Hancock, and Tyler (Olivia) Hancock, Shane Early and great-granddaughter, Lily Hancock. Also, her sister Linda DoVale (Alfred) and sister-in-law Sherry Veiga, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her brothers' Richard and Antonio Veiga predeceased her.
Marie was born and raised in Danbury to a large loving Portuguese family. Marie was very involved with the Portuguese community and always enjoyed listening to the Sons of Portugal Band.
Coming from three generations of bakers, Marie’s family business, Liberty Bakery and later the Elefant Bakery, was known to have the best Portuguese bread in town. She later worked as head baker at Waldbaum’s Super Food Mart until retirement. Her dedication and commitment to her family and work was an exemplary model to all that knew and loved her.
Marie was well loved by all her family and friends. Her home was a welcoming place for all to gather and celebrate life’s special occasions. These special memories will live in all our hearts forever.
The family wishes to extend their sincere and grateful appreciation to the staff at Glen Hill Center for the compassionate care shown to their mother. A special thank you to Carla Solipa, RN, Marie’s niece and medical guardian angel.
A celebration of life will be held from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm at the Danbury Memorial Cremation Funeral Home, 117 South Street, Danbury.
