Maria Luisa Recio

Maria Luisa Recio passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, on June 28, 2026. She was 86 years old.

Born on May 28, 1940, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Ramon Laboy and Ana Laporte. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Roberto Antonio Recio, in 2024.

Maria’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was the beloved matriarch whose love, strength, and unwavering support touched generations. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Maria found great happiness in the beauty of flowers and plants, which brought brightness to her home and joy to her heart. She was known for her generous spirit, always saying “yes” when someone needed help and never hesitating to lend a helping hand.

Maria is lovingly survived by her children, Brenda Bumbala and her husband Steve, Terry Kayser and his wife Andrea, Lisa Ridgeway, and Milagros Marrero-Johnson and her husband Tishay ; her 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Delia, Hilda, Maria, Ramon, Pedro, and Angelo. She was predeceased by her sister, Carmen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church on Main Street. Interment will be private. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Maria’s life during calling hours on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, 117 South Street, Danbury.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Maria’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
