Manuel grew up with his siblings as a jokester. He was the oldest and a fun role model in such uncertainty times. The difficult conditions at the time of the great depression in the Azores didn't stop his father on becoming entrepreneur which attributed survival, courage, strength and a strong sense of determination to his character to the end. A hard worker, thifty and engineering mind he was a very skilled and a professor without a degree. His professions were taxi driver, truck driver (moving the earth and milk containers) steel laborer, Mason and a fabulous husband and dad.

In his young age Manuel was recruited for military service in 1955 as a parachuter in the Portuguese Army. He laughed at the rules of the system and enjoyed showing how absurd life was at this time.

Manuel is loved by everyone he met with his unforgetable charm, full of life and was the life of the party. He had a love for building, constructing, gardening and enjoyed a cup of wine with anyone. He was also very kind, giving to anyone who needed help. His pride and joy was working hard for his beautiful famiy and his devotion to his wife that he loved so much.

Manuel is survived by his loving children José F. Sousa (Elizabeth), Diamantina “Tina” Sousa, and Joaõ M. Sousa (Jill), his siblings Diamantina Moniz and João C. Sousa as well as his six grandchildren: José, Matthew, and Isabelle Sousa, Manuel Dakota Rodriguez, Samantha, and Katheryn Sousa. As well as many godchildren, nephews and nieces.
