Louis J. Barney was born May 29, 1940 of Danbury, CT, son of the late Louis Barney of Sharon, CT and the Late Helen Barney of Danbury, CT passed away August 28, 2025 after a battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Louis worked at Stop&Shop (formerly First National and Finest) for 52 years before retiring. He started his career at the young age of 16. After 5 years of retirement, he went back to work at BJ’s Wholesale in Brookfield, CT for 10 more years.
Louis is survived by his wife Ruby Barney of Danbury, CT, his brothers Kenneth Barney (wife Charlene) of Newtown, CT, Arthur Barney (wife Roberta) of Charlotte, NC and Louis Barney (wife Beverly) of North Cackalackey, NC, his sisters Helen Meyer (husband Frank) of Patterson, NY, LouAnn Lando (husband Thomas) of Walling, TN and JoAnn Walley of Sharon, CT, his children Kenneth Barney (wife Susan) of Waterbury, CT, Debra Wood (husband Barry) of Danbury, CT, Michael Barney (predeceased) of Danbury, CT, Catherine Abney (husband Mark) of Danbury, CT, Lisa Horton of Danbury, CT, Jesse Barney (wife Patricia) of Bethel, CT, Ruby Broadbent (husband Charles) of Torrington, CT, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides being a butcher, Louis loved fishing, playing horseshoes, playing poker, and was very much into astrology, he was best known for telling jokes.
The family will be having a private celebration of life. Danbury Memorial Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
