Lois W. (Banks) Hopkins at the age of 97, passed away on October 21, 2020 at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Bethel, CT on January 24, 1923 to the late Howard and Marjorie (Schofield) Banks. Lois was predeceased by her husband Elmer A. Hopkins, a daughter Ellen, her sister Beatrice (Banks) Piskura and son-in-law Clovis Atencio.
During World War II Lois served in the Navy. She was stationed in Portsmouth and Norfolk, VA and the US Naval Hospital, Pearl Harbor, T.H. as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Second Class. Upon discharge Lois returned home, married and raised a family.
After retirement Lois became a world traveler with Elderhostel and the Bethel Senior Center. She also enjoyed many trips to Maine with her family. Lois participated in different activities at the Senior Center, including helping to create the center’s yearly quilt.
She leaves behind her children and grandchildren: daughter Linda Hopkins and grandson David Strano, son Howard Hopkins and grandchildren Cybil, Joshua and Elijah Hopkins, daughter Patricia Atencio and grandchildren Laurel Arnold, Jillian Jackson, Adam and Tyler Atencio, Warren (Diane) Hopkins, fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
“We find solace in knowing our mother has been reunited with our father and sister Ellen. Rest in peace Mom, we love you.”
Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery on October 30, 2020 at 10am.
