Kenneth Jones Obituary

Kenneth Alan Jones, of Newtown CT, formerly of South Salem, New York and Trinity, Florida, went home to be with our Lord on August 26, 2024 at the age of 79 years old.

Born on January 15, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, Ken was the son of the late Elwyn and Jeanne (Doelker) Jones, and brother of the late Karen Jones Breaugh.  Ken attended Eastern Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics, followed by an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Ken married high school sweetheart, Cheryl (Conley) Jones, in 1965. Together they raised three daughters; Julie Weber (Tim), Deborah Wayland (Dan), and Jennifer Badeau (Peter). The two have also been blessed with 8 beautiful grandchildren.

After holding various positions with IBM for 35 years, Ken retired as a Systems Analyst in 2003. Upon his retirement, he and Cheryl moved to Florida and enjoyed the sunshine, many new friendships, and countless happy hours on the golf course. Ken was actively involved with various committees within the community and especially enjoyed volunteering his time with the Men’s Golf League. In 2021, Ken and Cheryl returned to the Northeast, settling in Newtown, CT. to be near family.

Ken’s favorite place was the family cottage in Ontario, Canada. He looked forward all year to his return to the beauty of the North, the clear waters of Big Basswood Lake, and spending time with family and friends. He would frequently be found in his workshop involved in a woodworking project, boating on the water, or sitting on the dock watching the beautiful Canadian sunset. Ken has passed his love of the lake on to his daughters and grandchildren and has created with them countless happy memories and traditions.

Ken was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs in Florida, and more recently had attended Newtown United Methodist Church in Sandy Hook.

His was a life well-lived. And although he will be sadly missed, he will be remembered for his kindness, his infectious chuckle, his easy-going outlook, and his avid passion for the University of Michigan.

A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

If desired, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association.
