Kelly Ferris Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kelly Ferris, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who died peacefully at her home in Danbury on January 2, 2025, at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Throughout her life, Kelly faced her diagnosis with unshakable strength, kindness, and grace, never allowing it to define her or diminish her loving spirit.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Robert and Sandra (Lopata) Broderick, Kelly grew up with a deep love for her family and community. She attended St. Martha’s Catholic School in Enfield and later graduated from Southern CT State University in 1987 with a degree in Recreation.

Kelly’s career was marked by her dedication to serving others. She began working with Redding Parks and Recreation and, after taking time off to raise her family, returned to the workforce in 2001 as a School Readiness Teacher at the Boughton Street YMCA. Kelly concluded her career in 2022, after a few years of meaningful service as a Special Education tutor in the Danbury School System.

Kelly was passionate about the outdoors, always seeking adventure through hiking, running, and swimming. Whether she was enjoying the peaceful serenity of the beach or exploring the mountains, nature brought her immense joy. She was also a devoted community member, serving as president of her Homeowners Association for 20 years and volunteering for numerous local charities.

Kelly is survived by her loving husband, Mark, their daughter Megan, and Megan's husband, Kevin. She is also survived by her brother, Neil Broderick, and his wife, Jennifer, along with five nieces and nephews who deeply cherished her. She was predeceased by her parents and her son, Craig.

Kelly’s kindness, infectious laughter, and unwavering generosity left an everlasting impression on everyone she met. Her presence illuminated every room, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service in Kelly’s honor will be held at the United Methodist Church of Danbury, 5 Clapboard Ridge Rd on Saturday January 25, 2025, at 11:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ann’s Place in Danbury, an organization that offers comfort, support, and resources to people living with cancer. Watch her message here: https://youtu.be/pHkPUQmoqUY

Kelly’s legacy of kindness and her joyful laughter will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she loved so much.
