Katharina Post of Ridgefield, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on February 27th, 2024 with her loving family by her side. Born in Rheine, Westfalen, Germany in 1936 to the late Heinrich Mesdag and Katharina Röhlen Mesdag. Katharina was raised in Germany where she met the love of her life Bernhard. She followed him to the United States to marry and they spent 65 glorious years together. Katharina found happiness being with family and close friends enjoying life. This included trips to far flung places, sometimes camping, or shorter ventures to the beach, a park, or anywhere she was able to entertain those she cared about. Katie and Bernie’s house was always full of laughter and good cheer. There was a warm positive energy that resonated with anyone who walked through the doors and Katie was the source. Her smile welcomed you home. She was a dedicated wife and mother raising their three children with love and mercy. These values shaped the demeanor of her personal and professional life. She worked 18 years for St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport in the cafeteria and was well loved by the entire hospital staff. Everyone knew “Katie” and even voted her the employee of the year. Katie’s light that graced this world will be sorely missed by those who knew her. .
She is predeceased by her brother Hanz Mesdag, husband Bernhard Post, and daughter Barbara Marie Smith. She is survived by her sister Anna Bösker; children Lisa (Al) Weggeman, and David Post; her grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren Weggeman, and Ashar Post as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday March 8th, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home located at 117 South St, Danbury Ct. with a Prayer Service to begin at 6:30pm.
