Joye Elizabeth Ferris, of Danbury, passed away peacefully in Cleveland, Tennessee on January 1, 2024. She was born in Danbury on July 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Warren F. and Edith G. Doutney. She started her schooling at St. Joseph's Catholic School and finished at Danbury High School, graduating in the class of 1955.
Joye married Milton A. Ferris (of Bridgeport) in Danbury in 1958. She and Milton were married for 45 years and had two children who were born and raised in Danbury.
Joye worked in the Shipping Department at the Danbury-based firm Kirk and Matz. She worked for Kirk and Matz for over 30 years and was known for her loyalty and work ethic.
In her spare time, Joye enjoyed working on crafts and tending to the numerous flower beds around her home. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was known for her willingness to help with church activities or assist parishoners who needed help. She also thoroughly enjoyed her friends and the activities at the Danbury senior center. Most of all, her grandchildren were the delight of her golden years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Patricia Kuhne (of Danbury) and one grandson, Craig Ferris (of Bristol, CT). She is survived by her children, Mark (Kelly) Ferris of Danbury, and Karen (John) Hood of Cleveland, TN. Also surviving are sisters Carol Granja (of New Milford) and Sharon Bongiorno (of Danbury); grandchildren Megan Ferris, of Danbury, Rachel Hood, of Nashville, TN, Sarah (Zackary) Thompson, of Sparta, TN and Samuel Hood, of Cleveland, TN.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Joye at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danbury CT on February 3, 2024 at 10:00. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Lake Avenue Ext, Danbury.
Flowers for the service are welcomed, or donations can be made to St Joseph Church, 376 Main Street, Danbury CT.
