Joseph F. Lopes passed away peacefully on January 30, 2021 at Danbury Hospital in Danbury CT. Joseph was born on October 14, 1926 in New Bedford, MA to the late Vicente D. Lopes and Adelaide F. Duarte.
He grew up in Providence, RI and served in the United States Navy during World War II where he saw combat in the North Atlantic onboard the USS Guadalcanal aircraft carrier. Joseph taught English as a second language (ESL) for over 20 years at two schools he co-founded in Bogotá, Colombia, as well as had a lengthy career as an electrician. He was an avid reader, life-long learner, and loved studying Mathematics.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 60 years Rosa Lopes and his beloved children: Steven Lopes, Martin Lopes, Maria Rheaume, Joe Lopes, Ronald Lopes, Richard Lopes and Daniel Lopes, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
