Mr. João M. Verissimo, 77, of Danbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinsons disease.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores on April 1st, 1946 from the late Manuel Furtado Verissimo and Gloria de Oliveria, João served in the Portuguese military and was stationed in New Ginea. After immigrating to Danbury in 1971, he and his wife became founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in 1981.
João was known for his quality craftsmanship in cabinetry and dedicated over 40 years of his craft to Kingswood Kitchen and Danbury Hospital. In his free time, João could be found enjoying a glass of wine, listening to the sounds of an accordion, and spending time with his grandchildren.
João is survived by his wife of 52 years, Isaura Verissimo; his children Paul Verissimo, Maria (Jim) Verissimo, Christina (Ricardo) Verissimo; his grandchildren Ashley (Justin) Verissimo, Kianna Kieras, Isabella Garay; his great-grandchild Carter Bennett; his siblings Serafina Furtado, Cidalia Quadros; as well as many nieces and nephews.
João is predeceased by his late siblings Altina Faria, Jose and Silvino Verissimo, Maria de Gloria Corderio and his niece Leomena Carreiro.
Calling hours will be observed on Friday, November 24th from 9:30am to 11:30am, at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home located at 117 South Street followed by a catholic mass held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at 149 Deer Hill Ave in Danbury, CT.
João’s children would like to recognize their mother and his granddaughter, Isaura and Ashley Verissimo, for their love and dedication while being his long-term care takers.
The Verissimo family would like to thank the staff at Laurel Ridge Nursing Home and the medical team at Danbury Hospital, especially Claudia Albuquerque, for caring for Joao in his final days.
The Verissimo family asks that all donations be made to The Parkinsons Foundation in João ‘s memory.
