John Arthur Stanley

ohn Arthur Stanley, of Bethel, CT, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on March 16, 2026. He was 76 years old.

John was born on November 29, 1949, in Staten Island, NY, son of the late Eric James and Sarah (Glasgow) Stanley. He spent his early years in Ridgewood, NJ.  John carried on his father’s family tradition of attending boarding school in England, beginning at Marlborough House, then Haileybury and Imperial Service College. He returned to the US to attend The College of Wooster, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history. After college, John spent most of his career in corporate banking at Connecticut Bank & Trust (CBT).

John deeply valued his friendships, keeping in close contact with friends from Wooster and playing bridge with the same group for over 40 years. He was a member of the CBT alumni group, sustaining the many lifelong friendships he fostered throughout his career.

John also loved the outdoors- especially hiking - and was an accomplished cross-country skier. His interest in travel and hiking set the stage for many adventures, from hiking with friends in England’s Lake District to trekking in Nepal, one of his favorite countries to visit. 

John’s greatest adventure was meeting and marrying Kim Hooper in 2004. For the last two decades they have loved one another and supported each other’s goals and ambitions.

John is survived by his beloved wife Kim and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Richard in 2024. John’s sharp wit, dry sense of humor and warm friendship will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
