May 18, 1953 – December 15, 2023
Joe Grimes, 70, of Brookfield died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday - at the home he built on top of the hill in 1984.
Joe was born in Hartford May 18, 1953 to the late Alice (Drolet) and Larry Grimes . He grew up the third of ten children in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, returning to Connecticut at age 20 and falling in love with his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Standt). Together, they began an amazing journey.
A self-employed contractor, there was nothing Joe couldn’t dig, build or fix. He was in his element operating a backhoe or excavator, riding a motorcycle, splitting firewood, or filling his birdfeeders. He served the Brookfield community through the Municipal Building Committee, Creative Playground Committee, and Boy Scout Troop 8. In seven decades of life, Joe never passed up the opportunity to use his skills and capabilities in helping others. He never had a piece of advice too small to share.
In addition to his cherished Nancy, Joe is survived by his eternally grateful children Matt (Liz) and Mark (Kristin) Grimes and Emily (Andrew) McElroy. “Hoot” will be deeply missed by his adoring grandchildren Cullen and Dagny. He is survived by his brother Gerry, six sisters (Margaret, Louise, Mary (Mike), Amy (Alex), Jane (Paul), and Kristine (Lizi)), several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends he considered chosen family near and far; too many to name. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Cyril and Adrian.
