Jill Abel passed on from this life on February 16th, 2025. She was born on May 29th, 1939 in Bexleyheath, England to Henry and Winifred Pallant.
Jill was born in Kent, England on May 29th, 1939, daughter of Winnie and Henry Pallant. She went to a girls school, graduating with part of her nursing degree. She trained as a nurse at the Royal Free Hospital in London and graduated in 1960. Jill went on to Southampton Hospital to do part of her midwife training.
Then with a friend, she sailed on the Queen Mary to New York in 1963. She worked in the operating room at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. At a get together of nurses returning to their own countries she met the love of her life, Benjamin Wolf.
Because of visa restrictions, she settled in Toronto, Canada, working in the OR of New Mount Sinai Hospital for 2 years. Then returning to Port Chester, NY, she married Benjamin Wolf on January 8th, 1966, at Congregation KTI.
They had two sons, Marc Jay Wolf and Jason Barry Wolf. Jill was active in Hadassah and was “Woman of the Year” in 1981. Jill went to work in the OR of United Hospital, Port Chester in February 1966, accumulating 19 years there.
In January of 1982, Ben Wolf died of a heart attack. Jill married Bernard Abel in 1999 and retired from nursing. She spent many happy years traveling with Bernie to Germany, England, and Israel. Bernie died in 2010. Jill continued to go to Florida every winter, living in their shared apartment. Her home and garden in Rye Brook gave her very happy memories.
Jill is survived by her sons: Jason and Marc Wolf, in addition to her grandchildren: Bian Suzuki-Wolf, Lucas Kover Wolf, and Sofia Kover Wolf, and her many nieces and nephews.
