Obituary
Jeffrey Todd Fite, affectionately known as Jeff to his close family and friends, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of April 1, 2023.
Jeff was born on June 30, 1961, in Lynn, Massachusetts to the proud parents Lieutenant Colonel Edward T. and Doris E. Fite. Jeffrey spent his early childhood moving to different military bases around the world every few years due to his father’s military services. However, in 1977, at the age of 16 years old, Jeff and his family moved for the last time to Brookfield, CT. Jeff enrolled at Brookfield High School and quickly made lots of friends with his outgoing personality. He received his high school diploma from Brookfield High School with the class of 1979, and he spoke fondly of those classmates the rest of his life.
After high school he joined the Untied States Navy, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Jeffrey served honorably and loved the Navy; he was disappointed when he found out he was being honorably discharged on medical grounds. Upon leaving the Navy Jeff went to work in the private sector. After several years of earnest work, he found a career at Stop & Shop. Jeff retired early from Stop & Shop in 2018 after 21 years of services with them. He loved to travel and was able to do his fair share of it throughout his lifetime. Jeffrey particularly loved the Hawaiian Islands and was able to explore them with his family on several occasions. He also loved the Special Olympics of Connecticut and supported, as well as participated in them for almost twenty years. Jeffrey was a friendly good-natured man. He frequented the Do Ngak Kunphen Ling Buddhist Temple in Redding, CT often. Though he didn’t belong to any one faith he did respect them all. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Jeffrey is survived by his brother Stephen Fite, his longtime girlfriend Malinda Rutz, and many other family members and friends. A celebration of life will be dedicated in Jeff’s honor later this spring. Danbury Memorial Funeral Home assisted the family. www.danburymemorial.com
