Jean Harris Obituary

On Saturday morning March 02, 2024, God came to receive his angel, Helen Jean Harris. He quietly came and tucked her under his wing and took her peacefully to her
heavenly home.

Jean was born on August 09, 1954, in Bethel, North Carolina to the late George and Violene Harris. She was also predeceased by her oldest brother John Henry Smith and stepfather Robert Williams. 1968 Jean moved to Danbury, Connecticut with her mother and siblings. She attended Danbury High School, graduating in 1972 with her high school diploma. Jean was a member of New Bethel Church of God in Christ, serving as the head of the Jr usher board for many years.

Jean worked at Kimberly Clark as an assembly worker and at Laurel Ridge Healthcare as a dietary aide/cook. Jean earned her administrative certificate and clerical certificate from TBICO in 2002. She was so proud of her achievement as was her family. Jean was a person who loved spending quality time with her family. Jean’s favorite word she loved to say and taught her great-grandson MJ was Cotto Mighty.

She loved gardening and had more plants than seats in her living room (maybe some laughter to lighten the mood) she welcomed everyone with open arms and touched the hearts of many. She never failed to bring everyone together whether that was throwing something on the grill, or just hanging outside and enjoying one another’s company. She was the definition of being the life of the party, her laugh was contagious, and there was never a dull moment if Mama Jean (as everyone called her) was there. Jean was loved by all. To know her was to love her.

Jean leaves to cherish her amazing memories with her loving and devoted children, Tomeca Lachell Harris of Midlothian, VA; Shandale Yvette Harris of Chester, VA; and Crystal Deveraux Harris Anderson of Petersburg, VA. Eight grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Siblings: Maryann Harris of Danbury, CT; George Marvin Harris of Danbury, CT; Francis Koehnke of Virginia Beach, VA; Carolyn Harris of Danbury, CT; and James Earl Harris of Hartford, CT. Aunts & Uncles: Shirley Brown, Mattie Faye Dickens, Launia Brown, Milton Williams all of Danbury, CT, and George Smith of Waterbury, CT. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
