James (Jim) Smith Obituary

James Edward Smith III (Jim), died peacefully with his wife, Jill, and family surrounding him on Thursday January 11, 2024. He was 73 years old.

Jim was born on June 10, 1950 in Stamford, CT, the second of five children to James Edward Jr and Grace (Lane) Smith. Throughout his life Jim held many jobs, including working for his father, and this taught him many life lessons that he carried with him through life.

Jim worked for Redding Elementary School as a custodian when he met the love of his life Nelda Jill Welker. They married on June 24, 2005 and have enjoyed nearly 20 years together. While working at the school Jim was loved by the students, staff and all who encountered him. He was always there to lend a hand, or tool, when needed. Jim was ‘Mr. Fix It’ to many. He could often be seen at car auctions or antique car shows. Jim lovingly restored a ‘64 Oldsmobile. Jim’s generosity, his heart of gold and sense of humor are what will be missed most about him.

He is not only survived by his wife Jill but also his children; Cindi, Jessica, Kelly and Julia, his siblings; Judy (Jack) Provoost, Jack Smith, Jill (Michael) Vannie, Joy (Tom) Papazzdas and Joel Smith, his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
