James Tison Obituary

James S. Tison II, an esteemed Air Force veteran, software engineer, husband, father, PopPop, son, and friend, transitioned into the arms of his late wife and Heavenly Father on May 23, 2023. He touched the lives of many throughout his journey. Born on October 20, 1956, he embarked on a life filled with dedication, courage, and compassion.

Jim, as most of his friends and family knew him as, served his country with honor and distinction during his tenure in the Air Force. His unwavering commitment and sacrifices exemplified the true spirit of service. Beyond his military career, James possessed a profound love for his family and a genuine passion for life.

Throughout his years, James touched the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a unique ability to make people feel valued and appreciated, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. He had a knack for language, being fluent in five languages and using this skill for his important work in the Air Force. He enjoyed using his language skills during his civilian life to communicate with others - and to try to impress the rest of us.

He married the love of his life, Deb, on October 17, 1998. Becoming a stepfather to two young children may not have been the ideal situation for this once successful and handsome bachelor, but years later, he’d find the other true loves of his life because of this - his beautiful granddaughters, who he loved more than anyone. He never considered these kids his “step” grandchildren. They were his girls and he loved them more than life itself.

In his free time, James enjoyed old English sheepdog rescues, having had three loving companions over the last twenty years. He was a co-ed softball umpire for many years. Jim was a talented guitarist and had a love for music. He was an artist and enjoyed wood burning and pen making. Jim also spent over 20 years being a very good friend of Bill and his words, guiding others along the way to lead healthier and happier lives. He was an avid airplane enthusiast, loving air flight simulators for over half his life.

James S. Tison II leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who find solace in the memories they shared together. Though he has departed from this body, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. While his last years on Earth were dimmed deeply by loss and illness, his family and friends will find solace that he has transitioned to eternal peace and is no longer in pain.

He leaves behind his beloved Old English Sheepdog, Jolie; his beautiful granddaughters, Madeline Buturla and Sophie Larivee; their parents and his children Sarah Larivee-Winslow (Bryan) and Stephen Larivee (Alisyn); his son Michael Tison (Kim); his stepmother, Ellen Tison. He is predeceased by his soulmate, Debora Tison; his brother, Rick Tison; his father, James Tison Sr.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of James S. Tison II on June 2, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South St., Danbury CT 06810) at 5:15pm. James believed in the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ and will be blessed during this ceremony as we say farewell to his body on Earth.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/af218d0c) set up by his children to help with any financial burdens that may not be covered by his insurance. Any additional monies will be dispersed to a charity of their choosing for Armed Forces Veterans and a fund for his grandchildren to fulfill their educational goals to make their PopPop proud.

May we find comfort in the memories we shared with Jim, and may his soul rest in eternal peace in the arms of his Heavenly Father.
