James Joseph Emerito
1940 - 2026
James “Jimmy” Emerito, 86, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehab. Jimmy was born in Danbury, CT on March 22, 1940, one of eight children born to the late Nicholas and Evelyn Emerito.
James is survived by his partner of 37 years, Eileen Barrett of Newtown, CT. James is also survived by his son, David Emerito (Marcy) of New Milford, CT, and his stepsons, Daniel Sagaria (Margaret) of New Fairfield, CT, Matthew Barrett (Marianne) of Amston, CT and Jeffrey Barrett (Tara) of Gansevoort, NY. He was known as “Papa” to his Grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Anthony, Kristi, Raquel, Carli, Braeden, Kelly, Meghan, Conor, Riley & Easton, as well as several Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as his lifelong best friend, Jimmy Donnellan of Danbury, CT.
James was predeceased by his previous wife, Beverly Sagaria Emerito (Mother to David and Daniel), who passed away way too young on February 8, 1986. He was also predeceased by brothers John, Nicholas “Sonny”, Joseph “Mickey” and Alfred “Al” and sisters Inez “Sissy”, Julie and Margaret “Peg”.
Jimmy had many jobs, including the Danbury Hatting Industry, Construction, School bus driver, Driver for special needs children at the Connecticut Center for Child Development and Owner of Emerito Roofing and Siding. He retired from working for the City of Danbury, public works department. Through the years Jimmy enjoyed playing golf, fishing with his granddaughters, hunting with his friends, traveling with friends and family, and watching Nascar races with his sons. Later in life he enjoyed making amazing bird houses.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held at the family's discretion.
