James Brown Obituary

James “Cooky” Sylvester Brown, 70, of Danbury, CT, gain his wings on February 12, 2024 at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, CT. Cooky, as he liked to be called, was born on January 2, 1954 in Bethel, NC to Hattie Brown Person and raised by stepfather Elbert Person, Jr.

He was educated in the Bethel, North Carolina school system before relocating with his family to Danbury, CT where he graduated from Danbury High School.
He was employed with the Amphenol Corporation for many years and with Helicoil Corporation where he retired from.

Cooky was a dancing fella. LOVED to dance. His favorite dance move was doing the hustle. Winning many dance contests. His other passion was keeping his car washed, cleaning his tires whether it rained, snowed or on a sunny day. If your car was next to his, he’ll start washing your car too. He likes to go to relatives; houses and start moving things around to see where it looks good. We’ll tell him to move it back.

His favorite places to go were Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT and festivals around Connecticut with his road cousin Wendell Ward. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Cooky loved his family and will be missed by all that loved him. To cherish his memory, he leaves behind two daughters; Angela Harris, Monique Nazario (Virgilio). Two grandchildren; Jada Lee and Pershaya Harris; Great-granddaughter Milani Harris; Goddaughter, Latosha Armstrong; Two sisters, Shirley Person Armstrong, Marilyn Brown; Two brothers, Jimmy Person and William Person; Two sisters-in-law Vanessa Person and Launia Brown; One brother-in-law, Glen Highsmith and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. And his longtime friend Marvin Sheppard.
In addition to his parents, Cooky was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa Highsmith and Daisy Little; three brothers, Willie “Bro” Brown, Milton “Wayne” Brown and Carleton Brown. His special nephew Taronio Highsmith.
