Elder Henry Grier passed away peacefully August 4, 2020. He was born March 6, 1939 to James and Mary (Rivers) Grier, in King’sMountain, North Carolina. Elder Grier graduated from Gastonia High School and later relocated and made his home in Connecticut.
Elder Grier worked as a Heavy Equipment Machine Operator until his retirement from the Conrail Commuter Railroad after 41 years of service. Elder Grier was a committed member of Victory Christian Center for over 30 years. There he mentored men on how to live a Christ- like life, sang in the Men’s Choir, and served in many capacities throughout the years. Elder Grier enjoyed being a porter, praying for people, and participating in community events.
Elder Grier was married to “Mother” Ella Mae (Smith) Grier, whom he referred to as the love of his life, until her passing in 2008. He is survived by son Kevin Moore (Torrington, CT), daughters Loretta Worthington (Danbury, CT), Lynn Grier (Bronx, New York), and Diedra Patterson (Waterbury, CT), stepdaughters Gloria Ward (North Carolina), and Wyoming Council (Danbury, CT), and stepson Edward Council (Cornwall, CT). Elder Grier is also survived by brothers James, Jr., John, George, Ed, and Everette Grier; sisters, Mary Grier, Gladys Grier, Betty Pressley, and Claudia Neuman. He is predeceased by brothers Jessie and Nathaniel Grier and his sisters Helen Grier and Mabeline Guyton. Elder Grier was a humble man of God with many friends. Besides his children and siblings, Elder Grier leaves to cherish his memories a host of family including grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his loving church family.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Wooster Cemetery (20 Ellsworth Ave. Danbury, CT 06810) on Thursday August 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm
