George D. Powers

George Dale Powers, of New Fairfield, CT, formerly of Yonkers, NY died peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on October 28, 2022. He was 88 years old.

Born on March 20, 1934 in Yonkers, NY, son of the late John and Amalia (Henges) Powers. George graduated from Saunders High School in Yonkers, NY.

George was a retired U.S. letter carrier with the USPS out of Yonkers, NY. He lived a full life enjoying fishing, boating, bowling, playing soft ball and spending time by the Hudson River in his youth. He loved his dogs with 2 of his favorites being Alfie and his dear Ruby. George’s greatest pride and joy in life was his family, he loved spending time with his siblings, children,  grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Valerie & Larry Quartaro  of New Fairfield, CT, his son Eddie Meade of Yonkers, NY, his grandchildren; Lawrence, George and Elise. He was predeceased by his sisters Betty, Julie & Molly and his brother Earl.

A memorial service for family and friends  will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2022 at 11am at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery’s Chapel (540 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY). A lunch at a location tbd will follow. 

Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street) assisted the family with arrangements.
