Frank M. Reed passed away on February 5, 2024 at Danbury Hospital while surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 10, 1941 in Bronx, New York, son of the late William Allen Anthony and Angelina (Surani) Reed. He was 82 years old.
Frank was married to the love of his life Joanne Reed (Vernagallo). They married on September 28 th, 1980.
Frank has lived a remarkable life despite being stricken with polio at age 3. He became a ward of the state when he contracted the new virus as his mother had passed from complications during the birth of his brother the previous year and while his father was away at war. Most of his young age he received care at Hellen Hayes Hospital and became one of the first March of Dimes Children for President Roosevelt and one of the first children to use the lifesaving Iron Lung. He did not allow his disability to keep him down from living a long and fulfilling life. Frank put himself through banking school then began a career within Chemical Bank (Chase Bank) and became the Vice President of the bank branches in New Rochelle and Manhattan. He was passionate about helping others and created the Frank M. Reed Foundation for the Disabled to help children who were being cared for at Hellen Hayes Hospital. Every summer he threw a barbecue for the patients of Hellen Hayes along with a Christmas party every December. Frank made sure every patient received a small gift hand delivered by Santa during the Christmas party. He enjoyed history, music, food, and baseball. He was a friend of the Hyde Park National Park and frequently laid wreathes on President Roosevelts gravesite for events held at the park. Frank was quiet the chef even spending time taking classes at CIA. Up until the end Frank’s wife and children would call to make sure they had Dad’s ingredients or cooking time correct. Frank loved being with his family most of all. He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren had accomplished. One of Frank’s most favorite place is Ocean City, NJ where he would spend long summers there with his aunt and uncle. Ocean City is a favorite family tradition now for over 43 years and the family will continue the trips and always think of Frank and the traditions he started for them down at the shore.
Frank is not only survived by his loving wife Joanne but also his children; Danielle (Todd) DeLuke, Diana (Roger) Chappuis, Frank Reed Jr, his grandchildren; Niccolo, Gabriella, Bryce, Todd Jr, Roger IV, Brooke, Joseph and Ella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Frank is predeceased by his son Victor Reed Clarizio.
