Frank A. Kovacs, husband of the late Mary P. Kelly Kovacs, and son of the late Frank and Lena (Colla) Kovacs, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Frank was born on October 21, 1936, in Danbury. He graduated from St. Peter’s School in 1950 and from Danbury High in 1954; afterwords, he attended Danbury Teacher’s State College. Frank served in the 1st Army Division from 1955 to 1957 as well as serving in the Active Reserves with the 318th Signal Battalion from 1957 to 1959.
From 1964 to 1984 Frank owned and operated F.A. Kovacs Texaco in Danbury. After the store’s closing, he took up work as a postal employee for three years before joining the Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of Connecticut and finally retiring as a Sergeant with the Dealers and Repairers Division.
Frank was a member of the Bethel Zoning Board of Appeals for more than 18 years where he served both as the vice chairman and the chairman for many years. He was also a member of the Democratic Town Committee, St. Teresa’s Men’s Club of Woodbury, and the Woodbury ZBA from 2008 to 2017.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus McGivney Council #29 and was a member of the Danbury Catholic War Veterans since 1979. For many years, Frank was a member of the Crest Brook Retirees Golf League in Watertown.
Frank was predeceased by his brother, Richard Kovacs. He is survived by his sister-in-law Carol (Washicko) Kovacs and their children Kim and Alan; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was called “Uncle Frankie” by many, including his godchildren.
Thank you Uncle Frankie for not only being our uncle but a good friend and a stand-up guy, with a big heart. Your generosity and care opened many doors and created so many incredible memories for us. Your presence made our lives brighter, warmer and fuller. The love and the laughter you gave us will stay in our hearts forever. ~ Love the Kovacs and the Kelly Clan: Kelly, Keenan and Hurgin Families.
Per Frank’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The burial will be private at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury.
