Florence Olga Spinello

Florence O. Spinello of New Fairfield, CT, died peacefully at home with her daughters by her side on Tuesday January 4, 2022. She was 92 years old.

Born on January 18, 1929 in Bronx, NY daughter of the late Alfonse and Josephine (Zohoriyko) Matweichuk. Florence was married to her loving husband Philip for 38 years before his passing in 1988. She was a cherished employee of Hart Construction for many years before retiring.

Florence is survived by her daughters Julia Coggins & Florence King and her husband Joseph. She was a devoted Grandma to Theresa Ocasio, Jennifer Spinello, Nicole Harrington and her husband Wes, Joseph Spinello and his fiancé Nicole Mendes, Joseph King Jr., Lauren King, and Emily King. She was an adoring great-grandma of 10. Grandma Olga to Devon, Travis, Domenico, Giana & Jaidyn; Granny to Saniya; and Nanny to Maggie, Jack, Luke & Rose. She is survived by several nieces, nephews & Godchildren.

 She was predeceased by her son Joseph Spinello and her siblings; Walter and Lillian.

Olga was an avid gambler: she loved bingo, slot machines and scratch off lottery tickets! She loved to knit and crochet, blessing each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with baby blankets and sweaters.  She loved watching Family Feud with Steve Harvey. A proverbial insomniac when she was up at 4AM she always watched the CBS change of programing for it’s playing of the Star-Spangled Banner, which she also loved to have her grandson Joey K. play on the accordion and sing for her.  She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and playing poker for pennies with her crew of “crazy” nephews.  She always commented that if the sun was shining, it was already a good day.  She had a feisty personality and a great sense of humor and was loved by all who met her.  Besides her devotion to her children and grandchildren, she loved Jesus and drew strength from her faith.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street, Danbury) from 9am-10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Edwards the Confessor Church (21 Brush Hill Rd, New Fairfield) at 11am. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. View Cemetery (Rt 37 New Fairfield).
