Ellen Irene Clague (85) of Bethel, CT passed away on Tuesday, July 30th after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at Maplewood at Stony Hill in Bethel.
Ellen was born in Dover, NJ on September 20, 1938. She graduated from Chatham High School Chatham, NJ in 1956. Attended Denison University where she met the love of her life Stanley Clague. They were married in Pocono, PA in August 1957 where she then became a military wife raising her four children who meant everything to her. They lived all over the world, places including Germany, New Mexico, Iran, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, California, Bethel CT, Sherman CT and after Stanley retired in 2001 they moved to Eureka, CA. Ellen moved back to Connecticut January 2024.
Ellen was an avid talented artist, she loved the color purple, walking on the beach, she enjoyed music and dancing. You would usually find her working on puzzles, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed life and having a good time. Ellen was a wonderful mother who was always there to offer love, support, and wisdom to many. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and kindness.
She is survived by her Brother James Montgomery, Son Stanley Clague, Daughter Wendy Williams, Son-in-Law Douglas Williams, Granddaughters Julie (Jeremy), Brenda (Brian), Michele (Dave), Lauren (Nicole) & Rebecca (Matthew), Grandson Justin and Great Grandchildren, Lily, Braylon, Brady, Bryce, Ava, Danny & Logan.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents Harold & Francis Montgomery, husband Stanley, and sons Scott and Bradley.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ellen's honor on September 21st, 2024 beginning at 11:00am at the Bethel United Methodist Church (141 Greenwood Ave, Bethel, CT 06801).
