Elizabeth "Betty Lou" Louise Haxo

Elizabeth Louise Haxo, 95, of Warren, CT, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Betty Lou, as she was known by all, was born on August 12, 1926 in New Milford, CT, the only daughter of Lois and Clarence Schultz and sister of C. Theodore (Ted).

Betty Lou graduated from New Milford High School and the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, before moving to New Haven, where on a blind date in 1950 she met John Victor Haxo, who was completing his studies at Yale Medical School. Betty Lou and John married six months later and remained together for 56 years until Dr. Haxo’s passing in 2007. 

Betty Lou was a compassionate and dedicated caregiver. She was on the board of the New Milford Visiting Nurses’ Association, serving for a time as President, after which she worked at New Milford Surgical Associates for many years.

An avid reader, Betty Lou volunteered her time generously at the Warren Public Library. She loved the outdoors and could be found skiing, golfing, gardening, and enjoying daily walks around the neighborhood.  

But above all, Betty Lou was devoted to, and cherished by, her loving family: her three children and their spouses, Catherine and Walker Zeiser (of Salisbury, CT), Jeffrey and Carol Haxo (of Warren, CT), and William and Susan Haxo (of Warren, CT); her nine grandchildren, Chad, Leslie, Spencer, Jesse, John, Alexander, Evan, Preston, and Addison; and her eight great-grandchildren, Liana, Joseph, Nicole, Jesse, Lily, Brooke, Alison, and Emile.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10:00am at the First Congregational Church of New Milford.
