Elizabeth A. Sivolella, “Betty”, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2021 at the age of 89. Betty was born on June 4, 1932 in Scranton, PA, daughter of Paul A. and Helen (Forgarty) Higgins.
After graduating from Marywood College in Scranton, Pa., Betty met Nick at Keene College in Newark, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, in 1956, they married and moved to Montclair, NJ where they lived for forty years. Together they raised seven children.
Betty was a successful entrepreneur. In 1971 she opened up her own business (The Health Food Shoppe). She was ahead of her time, selling not only vitamins, but cage free eggs, organic milk and frozen yogurt! Another passion of hers was preparing delicious meals for her family and friends.
Betty loved New York City. She availed herself and her children of everything she could that New York had to offer: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Met Opera, The American Ballet, Broadway Theatre, the NY Giants, NY Yankees and the NY Knicks! You name it, Betty was there with her kids in tow. After many happy years in Pennsylvania and Florida, Betty’s health began to decline and she and Nick moved to Danbury, Ct. to be closer to family. They moved to Keystone Place at Wooster Heights, where she met wonderful friends who meant the world to her. A social butterfly to the end, she never missed an opportunity to gather among friends, whether it be playing cards or mahjong, or raising a glass at happy hour.
Betty was vibrant, honest, direct and fearless and she will be missed by all.
Betty is survived by her loving husband Nick, her seven children; Maria (Peter) Buzaid, John (Farah) Sivolella, Patrick Sivolella, Christopher Sivolella, Nicole Sivolella, Jamie (Thomas) Osygus and Kate Sivolella, her seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and her siblings, Robert Higgins, Thomas Higgins and Kathy Salmon and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, three brothers and one sister.”
A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury, CT 06811 on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 11am. Interment will be private.
