Eleanor Rogers Obituary

Eleanor Marron-Rogers of Southbury, CT died on July 9th, 2022 at The Watermark at East Hill where she lived since 2014 with her loving husband of 32 years, Daniel P. Rogers, who predeceased her. A native of New York City, Eleanor was the youngest child of the late John Flynn and Margaret M. Lee, both Irish immigrants. In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her first husband, James "Jim" Marron, her brother, John Flynn, her beloved sister, Margaret O'Connor and her nephews Thomas O'Connor and John Brown.

Eleanor graduated with the General Excellence Award for Girls from Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn, NY. She went on to attend Queens College, leaving after two years to marry Jim. Eleanor is survived by their three children, Margaret Wronker (Gary), Maureen Mirand (Mark)  and James Marron (Cynthia) as well as her nieces and nephew, Jeanne O'Connor, Susan O'Brien, Natalie Hookey, Jacqueline Kovacs, Eileen Treanor, Kathleen Meade, Maureen Brown and Robert Brown.

Eleanor was a life-long learner and it was rare to see her without a book in her hands. When her youngest, Jim, was in second grade, Eleanor returned to Queens College, where she completed her undergraduate degree and later went on to earn her Master's in Education. She taught in the New York City Public Schools System for over 20 years. After retiring in 1994, Eleanor and Dan moved from Middle Village in Queens to Long Island. For several years, Eleanor was a Professor at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, NY, where she taught literature. Eleanor also volunteered at her local library, tutoring underprivileged students.

Over the years, Eleanor combined her love of learning and travel by attending many Elderhostels throughout the country with Dan. They also enjoyed river cruises and had many adventures abroad together. Eleanor delighted in spending time with her 5 grandchildren - Lindsey, Tara, Matthew, Jenna and Alison.

Eleanor faced many challenges in her life. She handled each of them with tremendous resilience, dignity and courage. She was a force to be reckoned with and her children were very proud of her strength and tenacity. She will be dearly missed, but always in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
